PORTLAND — Quarterback Peter Gwilym of Cheverus won the 40th Fitzpatrick Trophy today at a ceremony at the Holiday Inn By The Bay.

Gwilym, a senior, completed 52 of 88 passes for 763 yards and nine TDs this season for the Stags, who were 12-0 in winning the state Class A football championship.

Gwilym also rushed for 705 yards on 120 carries and 13 TDs.

Gwilym beat out fellow QBs Cam Kaubris of Mountain Valley and Jamie Ross of Deering for the award.

The trophy is named after the highly successful Portland High coach who was one of Boston College’s first great athletes. The trophy was started by the late Yudy Elowitch, who played for Fitzpatrick at Portland.
