
That is the word from the Maine Association of Realtors, which reported 745 homes sold in York County in the three month period, compared to 676 sales the previous year.
Statewide, for January alone, sales of existing single-family homes were up less than one quarter of one percent. The median sales price for the homes was $200,000 statewide, up by 5.26 percent over 2017, the realtors association reported. The association does not report monthly sales by county.
“Buyers are anxiously awaiting the increased for-sale inventory that spring traditionally brings,” said Kim Gleason, 2018 President of the Maine Association of Realtors.
She said the January 2018 inventory is 17 percent less than in January 2017 — due, she said, to a strong winter selling season.
For the Nov. 1 to Jan 31 period, the median sales price for a home in York County was $252,500, up 2.85 percent from the same period the previous year, when the median price was $245,500.
By contrast, 912 existing homes sold in Cumberland County in the three-month period, was up 3.75 percent from the prior year, when 879 homes sold, the association reported. The median sales price in Cumberland County from Nov. 1 to Jan. 31 was $289,900, up 11.5 percent from the $260,000 median during the same period the previous year.
