From the Journal Tribune: “All eyes were on Three Ponds Dam and Spaulding Dam on the Salmon Falls River at West Lebanon and Milton N.H. this morning, as fears that the dams would breach and send a 10-foot wall of water down river continued to worry state and local officials. Workers had been monitoring the dams for several days and sandbagging since Sunday. About 70 roads from York to Old Orchard Beach and inland to western York County were closed due to flooding.”

50 years ago

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “Two men were convicted in Superior Court Friday of assault and battery after two hour and 35 minute deliberation by the jury. Michael Brenna, 23, of Kennebunk, and Lester E. Hodgkins, 21, or South Waterboro, were charged with offense on Stuart Worthing, 32, at Wells. Bail was set at $1,000 each.”

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “It is now expected that the Rev. Pierre E. Dupont will case before the supreme court at Alfred will go to the jury sometime tomorrow. The contestants finished their testimony today. Regarding the finding of the will, witness said he made a search for papers of the dead priest a few days after his death and took with him as witness. The will was not found at first but later was located in a package with a lot of other papers.”
