KENNEBUNK — Abbey Leonardi, a rising senior at Kennebunk High, is Maine’s Gatorade girls track and field athlete of the year for the third year in a row.

Leonardi won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs at the Class A state meet this spring and set a New England record of 10 minutes, 19.09 seconds in the 3,200.

Together with her three Gatorade athlete of the year awards in cross country, Leonardi has now won the statewide honor six times. In the program’s 26-year history, only one other athlete in the country – Emma Brink of Kentucky – has done likewise.
