KENNEBUNK — The next meeting of AFIO (Association of Former Intelligence Officers) will feature Professor Andrew R. Wilson from the U.S. Naval War College.

He will discuss Chinese national security strategy on the Korean Peninsula and the South China Sea.

His presentation will include what China can do to help alleviate our problems with North Korea as they have been allies and trading partners for 70 years.

The discussion will provide an update of the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea where the Chinese engineers have created an island and military runway in an area claimed by China, Taiwan, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

Wilson has had an extensive background in Chinese affairs beginning with his Asian studies, earning a  doctorate from Harvard to his leading the U.S. Naval War College with his teaching about strategy and policy.

He’s written many articles and books that focus on China from past to present.

The AFIO meeting is open to the public and will take place at 2 p.m. April 21 at the Brick Store Museum Program Center, 4 Dane St. in Kennebunk. A question period will follow the presentation.
