I am a grandparent of several children in public schools in Maine.
It has come to my attention that Maine (SAD 60) has adopted the bathroom policies espoused by President Obama in regard to allowing students to use whichever restroom they “identify” with in direct opposition to the will of parents and the majority of Maine voters.
You need to take immediate action on behalf of all parents and on behalf of their enrolled children to get this policy overturned and return to the common-sense practice of biology determining which bathroom you use.
Every parent I have talked to about this is outraged that this policy was changed, and even more outraged that it was done without even notifying them in advance, and they have reported (and I know from the comments of my grandchildren) that students are extremely apprehensive about having any student who wishes, regardless of sex, walking in on them in the restroom.
This need to be stopped and fast!
Please let me know what the governor plans to do to stop this unacceptable policy as soon as possible!
Thank you for your immediate attention in this matter.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
