Cumberland County Sheriff’s deputies say Richard Shok, 72, of Wells was pronounced dead at the scene of the 7:36 a.m. crash.
Shok was driving a 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser northbound on Route 26 when it left the roadway and struck a tree in the vicinity of Mayberry Road. He was alone in the vehicle.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction Unit.
Deputies said speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors.
In a news release, Capt. Scott Stewart of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said Shok was not wearing a seatbelt.
