BIDDEFORD — Following a stand-off that took place over several hours this morning, Rory Holland of Biddeford was charged with the murder of two men outside his South Street home.

According to State Police spokesman Steve McCausland, Biddeford police officers were called to the Holland’s home at 58 South Street after neighbors reported hearing shots fired, sometime between 1 and 2 a.m.

Holland, 55, has been charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of brothers Gage Greene, 19 and Derek Greene, 21, both of Biddeford, said McCausland.

Maine State Police and the Biddeford Police Department are working together to piece together the events that led up to the shootings.

The Greene brothers, who were apparently shot outside of Holland’s home, were brought to Southern Maine Medical Center where they died, he said. Their bodies have been taken to the State Medical Examiner’s office for a autopsies.

Between the shooting and the time that police arrived on scene, Holland had retreated into his home, said McCausland.

Police officers tried to get him to turn himself in.

Several hours after arrival of the police, at about 6 a.m., Holland came out of his home. He surrendered to the Biddeford Police Department via the tri-community SWAT team comprised of officers from Biddeford, Saco and Old Orchard Beach.

Holland was brought to the Biddeford Police station after he was arrested, where he was questioned by officers from that department and the state police.

He was later brought to the York  County Jail where he will remain until his first court appearance, which is scheduled for Wednesday, said McCausland.

Holland is well known to both police and local municipal officials. Beginning in 1999, Holland, who is African American, was involved in several court cases with Robert Kalex, in which he alleged that Kalex threated him and used racial slurs against him.

Holland also has a lengthy history of filing suit against the city of Biddeford.

He was also in the news in April, when an accidental electrical overload was found to be the cause of a fire which damaged a two-story apartment building Holland owns at 56 South St., adjacent to his home.
