KENNEBUNK — The Kennebunk Free Library announces its July 2018 exhibition, At the Water’s Edge,” the photographs and mixed media works of Kathy Hally.

The public is invited to view the exhibit during regular library hours when the gallery is not in use for library programs. Library hours are: Monday and Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday 12:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Hally is a literacy teacher in Southern Maine and a Maine photographer. She grew up in Maine, left for many years, and returned more than 26 years ago to raise a family.

“I started playing around with photography in high school and further studied it in college, earning an AS in photography from Endicott University in Beverly, Massachusetts,” she said. “My children are now grown and I have a renewed energy and excitement for photography. I enjoy photographing close up flowers, landscapes, boats, and water. I am especially drawn to the way water reflections distort and/or change what’s being reflected.

“The inspiration for my work is simply coming upon a scene that tells a story, has a strong mood, and/or an emotion. Those are the images I am excited to come upon while out and about. For me, my water reflections images remind me that there are many ways of seeing the same thing and many ways of interpreting the same image,” Hally said. “So often, we believe things are one way and yet when I look at reflections in the water I rediscover, over and over, that it is simply my interpretation of that moment’s image- knowing someone else may see it totally different or not even notice it. I also love how someone viewing my work may have no idea of what the actual reflection is of but enjoy it more for its colors or shapes and abstract design without thinking of its origin.“
