SANFORD — Four small fires found in the new Sanford High School and Center of Technology building early Monday morning are deemed as suspicious.
A police officer was doing a routine security site check around 4:30 a.m. at the new Sanford High School, which is slated to open in September. The police officer was outside the building and saw a fire glowing through the window of the building, said Sanford Fire Chief Steve Benotti.
Benotti said there were four small fires scattered throughout the building and some damage to the building is due to what appeared to be acts of vandalism. He said material burned in the fires included blueprints and construction material.
Benotti said due to the size of the building, the fire department received mutual aid from North Berwick, Acton and Wells to help thoroughly examine the entire building.
There were no injuries. Benotti said the fires appear to be suspicious.
He said the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in conjunction with the State Fire Marshal’s office are investigating the fire.
