KENNEBUNK — A multiple-vehicle accident on Fletcher Street in Kennebunk just east of exit 25 on the Maine Turnpike resulted in the roadway being closed for more than two hours Tuesday morning and several people taken to the hospital.
According to Kennebunk Deputy Police Chief Michael F. Nugent, a 41-year-old Wells man was driving eastbound in a 2001 Dodge pickup about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday when his vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and struck a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by a 59-year-old Kennebunk woman.
Nugent said that the Dodge pickup flipped on impact and then struck a 2014 GMC pickup driven by a 47-year-old Kennebunk man.
“Additionally, a 2015 Volkswagen Passat, driven by a 38-year-old Wells man swerved to avoid the accident and went off the road causing some minor property damage,” Nugent said.
Rescue units from Kennebunk and Arundel took the driver of the Dodge pickup and the driver of the Volkswagen Jetta to Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford with non-life threatening injuries.
Fletcher Street was reopened to traffic at about 10 am., Nugent said.
