OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Residents of Old Orchard Beach approved the Regional School Unit 23 Budget in a 1,547 to 348 vote.
RSU 23 is a single municipality school district, covering Old Orchard Beach.
The $14.1 million 2019 fiscal year school budget has no impact on the town’s tax rate. The municipal budget, which was approved earlier this month, is estimated to increase the mil rate by 47 cents. This would equate to about a $96 annual property tax increase on a $200,000 home.
The 2019 fiscal year school budget reduces a technology specialist position and eight education technician positions.
The budget also funds the addition of a technology director, pre-Kindergarten staff, a part-time world language teacher at Loranger Memorial School, a full-time librarian at Old Orchard Beach High School and half-time English and math teachers at Old Orchard Beach High School. It also allows for the purchase of two utility trucks for the maintenance department and a small school bus.
