SANFORD — There’s no rest for the weary.

Or, in Jenni Roberts case, there’s no rest for the talented.

A day after Roberts broke two state records and was named Swimmer of the Meet at the Maine Class A Girls Swimming and Diving Championships, she was back at work, practicing with her other team, the Sanford Titans, at the Sanford YMCA.

Roberts will be swimming with the Titans through the spring and summer, with a short break in between, keeping her skills sharp before she makes the 500-mile journey this fall to the University of Maryland, where she will attend school on a swimming scholarship.

On Tuesday, Roberts broke records in both the 100 fly with a time of 55.89 seconds, then broke her own state record in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:04.63.

“It feels really good,” Roberts said of the meet. “It was a great day overall.”

While Morse came away with the state title, the Redskins finished in 10th place overall with 106 points, the best of any school from York County.

“I think we all swam really well,” Roberts said. “Most people were happy with it. I believe we had four girls that swam at finals, and two relays, which is good. Both of our relays finished fifth, which I thought was really good.”

Heading into the meet, Roberts said she wanted to break the 200 yard individual medley record, which she held for a short time in her sophomore year.

“I know I wanted to go home with at least one more state record,” Roberts said. “Mostly in the 200 IM, because I had [the record] for a half an hour two years ago, and then a girl in the Class B meet got it. That’s really what I wanted to do.”

Roberts said the recruiting process to Maryland began last summer.

“Last summer I got letters from a bunch of different schools,” Roberts said. “I started looking online at them, emailing coaches. I went on visits this fall, and I just loved everything about Maryland.”

While she does not yet know what she wants to major in at Maryland, she said she is happy to continue her love of swimming.

“I’ve been swimming since I was five on the Y team I’m still on now,”Roberts said. “I just love it and don’t want to stop.”
