SACO — Police are investigating an early morning crash that destroyed a sunroom on a Maple Street home and damaged two vehicles parked in the driveway.

Around 1 a.m. Wednesday, a truck ran off the curb and struck two cars in the driveway and destroyed a sun room at Don Henson’s house at 2 Maple St., at the corner of Lincoln Street.

“It just sounded like a freight train was going through the house,” said Henson.

Henson said he went outside and yelled out to the driver to see if they were okay, but the driver had run away.

“I thought for sure I would find a body in that pickup, and there was nothing,” he said.

The vehicle, a 2001 Toyota pickup truck, was on its side, according to Henson and Saco Deputy Police Chief Jeffrey Holland.

The truck is registered to Derek Nichols of Saco. Holland said that no one has been arrested or charged in relation to the crash.

In addition to “substantial damage” done to the home, Holland said that the combined damage to the Hensons’ two cars was estimated at $10,000.

“Saco and Biddeford police did an awesome job” in their response to the incident,      said Henson.

Early Wednesday afternoon, Henson said since the event occurred many different scenarios have gone through his head. He said that sometimes, when he couldn’t sleep at night, he would go out to the sun room to have a drink of water, and he’s glad no one was in the path of the vehicle that damaged his house and cars.

“It could have been a lot more tragic than it was,” said Henson. “It seems a little bit eccentric, but it’s one of those things in life you have go through.”

Henson said a structural engineer is scheduled to visit his home tomorrow to determine how to go about repairing the home.
