NORTH BERWICK – ACAR is committed to saving as many companion animals as possible. Many rescue animals do not come from the best of circumstances. In some cases, that means taking in animals that may have been exposed to a variety of elements and illnesses. Although the animals are quarantined and animals vetted, (vaccinated, spay/neutered), checked for a clean bill of health before adoption, like many shelters, sometimes the unknown gets passed.

Recently ACAR unknowingly took in a mom and litter of kittens that had been exposed to ringworm. As a precautionary measure, the agency has decided to quarantine all the animals at the 251 Country Club Road location for 21 days. This will ensure close monitoring the animals for their well being and to eliminate risk to our adopters.

There are still many healthy kittens in foster care who have not been exposed and will be ready for adoption soon. Watch the ACAR FaceBook page for announcements about the reopening and for satellite adoption events.

Check out adoptable pets at petfinder.com in the 03906 zip code.

Adoption hours are every Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Monday, Wednesday and Friday noon to 5 p.m. at the adoption center/foster home of Marilyn Harley, 251 Route 4, Sanford.
