ALFRED — The trial of Thomas Proia, 40, of Alfred, was scheduled to resume this morning.
Proia is on trial at York County Superior Court for a number of charges stemming from an October incident during which he allegedly fired a weapon inside and outside his Sanford Road home, endangering the lives of others.
As a result of the investigation that began with the shooting, Proia was charged with 10 offenses, including reckless conduct, aggravated assault, domestic violence, sexual assault and several other charges.
Several Maine State Police officers testified Tuesday morning before Justice Wayne Douglas. The trial broke at noon because other witnesses were unavailable until today, court personnel said.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
