Sanford Fire Dept. collecting for MDA
On Saturday, Sept. 3 members of the Sanford Fire Department will be continuing their partnership for the MDA on Saturday. The fire fighters will be setting up at the entrances and exits of Lowe’s, 1900 Main St., and taking donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Maine. The event will take place from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Smoking cessation course
Southern Maine Health Care’s “Be Tobacco Free” program is a comprehensive four-week course designed to offer tobacco users all the information and tools required to become tobacco free. Our certified tobacco treatment specialists will offer insights into smoking habits, stress and the relationship stress has to smoking, as well as nicotine replacement options available. Ongoing support is also valuable in guiding the tobacco user to become tobacco free. All sessions are individualized. This group is free. Sessions are held in the Cardiopulmonary Gym at Southern Maine Health Care Medical Center, 1 Medical Center Drive, Biddeford. Call 283-7908 to schedule an appointment with Deborah Brown, RN, RRS-C, a certified tobacco treatment specialist.
Preschool story time
Bring your 3- to 5- year-old preschooler to the library every Tuesday morning for a reading adventure. “Laughing with Lois: Preschool story-time” involves children’s literature, songs and a craft project, and is designed to help children develop early social and behavioral skills essential for schooling. The program will be held from 10 – 11 a.m. Tuesdays in the Deering Room of the Dyer Library.
Lounge at the library after school
Join the Saco Museum and Dyer Library on Wednesdays for an afterschool “lounge,” where tweens and teens can be themselves. The lounge offers a safe and fun space for homework, socializing and/or participating in various group activities. Drop in for 10 minutes or stay for an hour.
Breast cancer survivors support group
A Breast Cancer Survivors Support Group meets from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at Southern Maine Health Care Medical Center, 1 Medical Center Drive, Biddeford. This group is free. For more information, contact Helene Langley at 283-7805.
