BIDDEFORD — Three men appeared in Biddeford District Court on Wednesday to enter pleas in an ongoing prostitution case, in which a Wells woman, Alexis Wright, 29, is alleged to have used her Pura Vida Studio in Kennebunk, where she led Zumba classes, as a front for a prostitution business.

The men joined at least 18 others who have already entered pleas. Kenneth A. Fairbanks, 54, of 177 Ridge Road in Lisbon Falls, pleaded guilty and was issued a $1,000 fine ”“ or about $1,210, after fees and surcharges, according to Judge Andre Janelle, who presided over the arraignments.

When asked by Janelle if he had anything to say about matter, Fairbanks hung his head and replied, “Nothing.”

Claude S. Palmer, 47, of 117 Pottle Road in Oxford, pleaded no contest. Before the arraignments, Janelle explained that that a plea of no contest means that while a defendant does not admit culpability as it pertains to the specifics of the charges, he will nonetheless submit to the conditions of a guilty plea. Palmer was charged $700 in fines, before surcharges.

To date, Fairbanks and Palmer are the only men charged in connection with the case who have entered guilty or no contest pleas.
