SANFORD — The Sanford Spartans picked up their first win at brand-new Alumni Stadium on Friday night as they earned a 20-6 win over Oxford Hills/Buckfield in a Class A football showdown.
Xavier Levine tossed a pair of touchdown passes and the Spartans would get a defensive score as they snapped a two-game losing streak.
Levine hit Matt Romano on an 18-yard TD pass in the first quarter. Levine nailed the extra point to make it 7-0.
Sanford would add to its lead in the second when Levine tossed a 25-yard touchdown pass to Carson Bickford. Levine’s kick would make it 14-0 at halftime.
Oxford Hills would get on the board with a Colton Carson TD run in the third, but Sanford’s defense would put the game away in the fourth.
With Oxford Hills pinned down at its own goal line, Sanford’s Leyton Bickford picked off a pass in the end zone for the score.
Levin finished 12 of 16 through the air with 170 yards and two scores. Caleb Saucier caught three balls for 63 yards and Leyton Bickford hauled in four passes for 72 yards.
Sanford (1-2) will visit Edward Little next week.
