ALFRED — An Arundel man, who police said fired a gun through a screened window during an argument with his spouse in Lyman in August, has been indicted by a York County grand jury on three charges.

The indictments charging Glen A. Waterman, 32, with criminal threatening and stalking with a dangerous weapon, both Class C felonies, and a Class E misdemeanor charge of discharging a firearm near a building or dwelling, were handed down Tuesday.

An indictment is not a finding of guilt; it is a finding that enough evidence exists to move forward with prosecution.

Maine State Police initially arrested Waterman on Aug. 27 for allegedly firing a weapon as his spouse and a child were leaving a house. He was taken to York County Jail, state police said in an earlier statement, and released on $500 bail.

On Aug. 29,  state police said they learned Waterman had been sending messages to his spouse by email and social media — an alleged violation of his bail conditions from his earlier arrest and he was again taken into custody.

A Class C felony carries a maximum prison penalty  of five years, upon conviction. A guilty finding on a Class E misdemeanor carries a maximum jail term of six months.

An arraignment date has not been set.
