YARMOUTH (AP) — A driver was arrested after police say his minivan struck two police cruisers, injuring an officer, on Interstate 295 in Yarmouth.
Police say cruisers from Yarmouth and Freeport were at the scene of an accident early Sunday when the minivan hit the vehicles. They say the northbound lanes had been shut down but the driver didn’t stop for the road closure.
Yarmouth police officer Derek Lukas was treated at Maine Medical Center for injuries not considered life-threatening.
Connor Fitzsimmons, of Topsham, was arrested by Cumberland police and charged with operating under the influence.
He was taken to the Cumberland County Jail. It wasn’t immediately known if he has an attorney, and a phone number couldn’t be found for him.
