BANGOR (AP) — Maine Republicans are urging party unity as they attempt to re-elect Gov. Paul LePage and regain majorities in the state Legislature.
The GOP convention kicked off Friday in Bangor.
Republicans adopted a new platform that defines marriage as a union between one man and one woman and urged the repeal of the Common Core Standards. It also praises LePage and GOP lawmakers for denying Democrats’ attempt to expand Medicaid under the federal health care law.
The convention will continue on Saturday with speeches from U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, Maine Sen. Susan Collins and Gov. Paul LePage.
