The popular doughnut franchise has been considering opening a shop in York County for a while, and that possible location may turn out to be at the site of a former Burger King on U.S. 1 in Saco.
Nothing is offical yet, but workmen at the site Friday said they were going to be putting a Krispy Kreme at that location to be opening later this spring.
Krispy Kreme is headquartered in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and offers doughnuts, coffees, drinks, ice cream cones, sundaes, bagles and oatmeal.
The first Krispy Kreme shop was opened in Winston-Salem. North Carolina on July 13, 1937 and sold doughnuts to local grocery stores.
Thr original recipe for yeast-raised doughnuts was reportedly purchased from a New Orleans French chef.
The Krispy Kreme chain has grown to include more than 1,000 shops internationally and possibly a new shop in Saco by this coming summer.
