John Cecil Slater, 66, of Augusta, was arrested without incident by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Division, and Maine State Police, at approximately 1:10 p.m. Wednesday, July 9 in Twin Mountain, New Hampshire.
Slater was wanted in connection with the robbery of The Bank of Maine in Hallowell on June 23.
The FBI released a statement last Wednesday, July 2, saying a federal arrest warrant had been issued for Slater, and that police were looking to take him into custody. Slater is alleged to have robbed The Bank of Maine’s Hallowell branch on June 23 at 10:15 a.m. Slater entered the bank, verbally issued threats, demanded money and then left, according to the FBI. A weapon was not displayed during the robbery, but the statement from the FBI said Slater was considered to be “armed and dangerous.”
Slater is scheduled to make an initial appearance today in federal court in Bangor, according to the FBI.
