LanternFest with picnic
LanternFest will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Spring Hill Restaurant, 117 Pond Road, featuring a picnic and music by PB&J, followed by a 7:30 p.m. sunset lantern stroll through fields and woods.
The event will feature food vendors, face painting, lanterns to make or buy and a parade of lanterns, followed by the launching of boat and sky lanterns off Knights Pond and an AfterGlow Party in Spring Hill Restaurant.

Textile design program
Historic New England’s associate curator, Laura Johnson, will give a talk on textile design, production and reproduction at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Nickels-Sortwell House Barn, Federal Street.

Equine apprentice program
Carlisle Academy Integrative Equine Therapy & Sports, 65 Drown Lane, will offer volunteer apprenticeship training from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 1 for individuals who wish to work at its therapy and adaptive programs for riders with disabilities.
In return for an apprenticeship commitment of two to three hours, one day a week, throughout a program session (typically seven weeks), apprentices will receive instruction via monthly lecture series on equine-related topics and discounts on recreational riding lessons.
Apprentices will serve as sidewalkers and help with facility and equine care. Enrollment is open to ages 14 and older.
