SACO — The Saco Fire Department is once again opening its doors to the public for its annual open house Saturday.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the 271 North St. Fire Station.

The department hosts the event every year as part of efforts to reach out to the community. Fire officials report the event has in the past attracted about 350 attendees.

There will be guided tours of the facility and event goers can explore the fire engines and equipment. There will be a live car-cutting demonstration, and the opportunity to use a live fire hose or try on rescue gear, as well as a smoke house and many activities for children, and free car seat safety inspections. Refreshments, including fire house chili, will be served.

“If you haven’t been to the open house yet, you need to go,” said Mayor Ron Michaud at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting.  He said his grandchildren went last year and loved the opportunity to get an up close look at some of the equipment.
