WELLS — The Wells Reserve at Laudholm announces the following upcoming programs scheduled to take place this month:

”¢ On Wednesday, Aug. 27, 7-9 p.m.: Pianist Masanobu Ikemiya will present a program of ragtime and classical selections, plus commentary and images, for a recital in the historic Laudholm barn in the concert “Play of Water in Nature.”

Ӣ On Thursday, Aug. 28, 12-3 p.m.: Kayaking on the Little River Estuary. Paddle the quiet waters of a Maine estuary, watching for wildlife and learning about the habitat from a registered Maine Kayak Guide. For ages 12 and up; some restrictions apply. Registration is required.

”¢ On Thursday, Aug. 28, 6-7:30 p.m.: “From Moody to Goose Rocks: Whose Shoreline Is It?” The private landowner perspective on beach access in Maine will be presented by Sidney “Pete” Thaxter and Ben Leoni, attorneys from the Portland law firm Curtis Thaxter. Pete Thaxter presented oral arguments before the Supreme Court in the Moody Beach case in 1988 and the Goose Rocks Beach case in 2013. Leoni was one of the lead attorneys for Curtis Thaxter in Goose Rocks and helped develop the legal arguments that led to the Supreme Court ruling in their clients’ favor. Presented by the Wells Reserve at Laudholm and Maine Sea Grant. Registration is required.

”¢ On Friday, Aug. 29, 9-11 a.m.: Laudholm’s Farming Past. Delve into the rich history of the Wells Reserve at Laudholm, from American Indian life to English settlement and from farmland to estuarine reserve. This docent-led walk covers about half a mile. Free with site admission.
