PORTLAND — A total of $25,000 in grants will be made available to Cumberland and York county nonprofits through the Town & Country Federal Credit Union’s 2014 Better Neighbor Fund charitable giving campaign.

Town & Country Federal Credit Union President & CEO David Libby said this year’s Better Neighbor Fund’s $25,000 donation will be given to eight nonprofits across the two counties.

From now through Sept. 26, Town & Country will be accepting entries for the 2014 Better Neighbor Fund. The first 25 entrants that best meet the qualification criteria will be selected as nominees and advance to the public voting phase, which will take place on the Better Neighbor Fund Facebook page.

Two grant categories be recognized this year: one for organizations with annual operating budgets less than $500,000, and the second for charitable organizations with annual operating budgets over $500,000.

In order to be eligible for a Better Neighbor Fund grant, nominations must meet the following criteria: an application for a specific project or initiative (Better Neighbor Fund grants cannot be awarded to support general operations); an impact statement that identifies how and why the proposed project meets the needs of the community; and completion within 12 months of receiving grant monies.

The 25 eligible nominees that advance to the voting phase will be announced on Sept. 30. The public voting period runs Oct. 1-31. The organizations that get the most online votes in each category will be the winning recipients of the grants.

Grant winners will be announced Nov. 13.
