A worker clears out space for a new skatepark on Ballpark Way, Old Orchard Beach, Monday afternoon. Work is expected to be complete on the park by Dec. 1. The town approved a $62,000 contract with SPC Construction for the construction of the skatepark, which is to be located on Ballpark Way, just before The Ballpark. The skatepark will be a bowl-like structure, which will be open from dawn to dusk, according to Recreation Director Jason Webber.
Money for the skatepark will come from a combination of grants, town funds and money raised through fundraising efforts. The new skatepark replaces a worn-out, wooden skatepark on E. Emerson Cummings Boulevard that was torn down in 2009.
