SANFORD — The Mainers recently signed on two more players from one of the best collegiate baseball teams in America. The No. 7 team in the country in Texas Christian University will be sending freshman Bryan Sturges (Katy, Texas) and sophomore Dalton Brown (Benbrook, Texas).

Freshman Bryan Sturges will be taking up a roll in the outfield for Sanford this summer. A utility player for the Horned Frogs, Sturges was a 2016 graduate of Seven Lakes High School in his hometown of Katy, Texas.

Sturges’ Seven Lakes Spartans went 33-5 his senior year, and was the #19 team in Texas behind the first team all-district Mainer.

The 5’10”, 200 pound freshman was a 2016 Rawlings-Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American his senior year, and picked up a varsity letter all four years. As Sturges is anxious to hit the field for TCU, he’ll have plenty of time to shine this summer in a Mainer uniform.

Brown’s seven bullpen appearances have him tacked at a 6.35 ERA, giving up five runs on six hits. His freshman year saw similar stats, as the Benbrook, Texas native made 10 appearances from the bullpen and shutting out opponents in seven outings.

Brown was named first-team all-district as a pitcher in 2014 and first-team all-district as a catcher in 2015. In his senior year, he played in the THSAA All-Start game.
