BIDDEFORD — The Portable Library, AKA cool bookmobile, from the Portland Public Library will be visiting McArthur library at 11 a.m. on Thursday.

For more than a century, libraries around the world have tried to reach out to people who cannot physically get to the library by delivering materials directly to them. The original horse-drawn carriages have been replaced by modern vehicles, but the concept is the same: libraries meeting the needs of the citizenry where they live, work and play.

This time, a Key Bank representative will be on board to answer financial questions folks might have. The visit is part of a Southern Maine Library District circuit to remind York County residents of services they can get free of charge both through their local libraries and through their system library, Portland Public Library.

Residents of York County are entitled to a free library card at Portland Public Library. On Thursday, staff will be available to answer questions.

For more information, contact McArthur Library at 284-4181. This and other events at the library are free and open to the public.
