CAPE ELIZABETH — Micah Kogo of Kenya separated himself from the pack halfway through the 14th Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race this morning and cruised to victory in 27 minutes, 46.9 seconds.

“I like a fast race,” said Kogo, 25, who formerly held the world record for a 10K road race of 27:01.

The top seven runners all hailed from Kenya. Lucas Rotich, 21, was second in 27:55.9 and two-time champion Ed Muge was third in 27:59.4.

On a warm and muggy morning in Cape Elizabeth, a record field of 5,875 completed the 6.2-mile course that stretches from near Crescent Beach to the Portland Head Light, including the 60,000th runner in the race’s 14-year history.
