A number of soccer, field hockey and volleyball players, cross country runners and golfers from Biddeford, Massabesic, Sanford and Thornton Academy were recently named to all-star lists by the Southwestern Maine Activities Association.

Starting in boys soccer, Thornton Academy junior standout Simon Trcka was named to the first team as a forward, with teammates Eric Gooch and Tyler Lebel named to the second team as midfielders and Dalton Moore as a defender.

Biddeford’s Bailey Fontaine, Sanford’s Mitch Duncan and Massabesic’s Surafel Zunser and Dawson Renaud were all named honorable mention.

In girls soccer, Thornton Academy’s Western Class A semifinalist team had two first-team players in forward Tori Daigle and defender Katie Senecal. Thornton’s Haley DaGraca (forward), Katherine Gillespie and Katie McCrum (midfielders) and Lexi Nason (goalie) were all named to the second team.

Biddeford’s Peyton Janelle, Sanford’s Vanessa Hodge and Massabesic’s Hannah Lundrigan were all named honorable mention.

In field hockey, Biddeford’s Abbie Paquette, Massabesic’s Abby Staples, Sanford’s Liz Helmreich and Thornton teammates Libby Pomerleau and Grace Pickering were selected to the first team.

Biddeford’s Jess Laverriere, Massabesic’s Maggie Redman, Sanford’s Allison L’Heureux and Makayla Garvin and Thornton’s Carli Legere were named to the second team, while Biddeford’s Taylor Turgeon, Massabesic’s Emma Desrochers, Sanford’s Hannah Rossignol and Thornton’s Dorina Sirois were all honorable mention.

Biddeford’s Maddie Perry, Massabesic’s Emma Rutledge, Sanford’s Amber Singleton and Thornton’s Grace Decker were also selected to the all-rookie team, while Thornton’s Lori Smith was named co-coach of the year with Gorham’s Becky Manson-Rioux.

Moving to volleyball, Biddeford had a trio of first-team all-stars in Kendra Cote, Jocelyn Moody and Kayla Fournier. Thornton’s Julia Chasse and Ashley Howe were named to the second team, while Biddeford’s Bri Collard and Thornton’s Kylee Austin were selected as honorable mentions.

In cross country, Massabesic’s Michael Aboud and Andrew Mongiat were named to the boys’ first team, with teammates Alex Swett and Donovan Duffy selected to the second team. Biddeford’s Jordan Cook, Massabesic’s Remi Gaetjens, Thornton’s Cameron Mondor and Sanford’s Adam Pierce were named honorable mention.

On the girls’ side, Massabesic’s Gabby Johnson, Rochelle Morrison and Emily Wasina were selected as second-team runners along with Thornton’s Katie LeBlanc, with Massabesic’s Maquila Dimastrantonio, Biddeford’s Lani Melton, Thornton’s Abby Runnels and Sanford’s Sarah Wright named honorable mention.

Finally in golf, Kennebunk’s Jack Graydon and Biddeford’s Jason Vadnais were named to the southern division’s first team, with Kennebunk’s Dom Haritos, Sam Heikkinen and Connor Shillington, Biddeford’s Nick Conley and Sanford’s Jordan D’Alessandro named to the second team. In the central division, Thornton’s Greg Kalagais was named to the first team, with teammates Logan Picard and Noah Jacques named to the second team.

Thornton also dominated the girls selections, taking four of the six spots thanks to individual state champion Hashilla Rivai and teammates Lauren Wells, Jordan Laplume and Riley Donovan.

Football all-star teams have yet to be released.
