WESTERLY, R.I. (AP) — More than 100 veterans and others are celebrating a Westerly housing development for disabled, low-income veterans
The Westerly Sun reports that the Operation Stand Down Rhode Island project includes three buildings providing family housing and apartments and a community center that also has four housing units. The project includes 10 housing units and potential capacity for 28 people depending on the number of family members.
A Veterans Day ceremony on Tuesday drew state and federal legislators, housing officials and representatives of businesses that committed time, money and other support to the project.
U.S. Rep. James Langevin cited veterans who return home with post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injuries. He said the project and services such as employment assistance will provide “paths to stability.”
