HILLARY MORIN has been awarded the Girl Scouts of Maine’s highest honor, the “Girl Scout Gold Award,” for her community service initiative Project L.O.V.E. (Lots of Varying Essentials), in which she created eight reusable collection boxes to amass basic necessities benefitting the Ronald McDonald House of Portland. Morin is a member of Girl Scout Troop 2201 of Brunswick and a graduate of Cheverus High School in Portland, She plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono to major in biology. THE HOMELESS ANIMAL Rescue Team, a shelter and adoption center for cats and kittens, is looking for a new adoption coordinator. This is a rewarding volunteer opportunity for someone who loves cats and would like to help find homes. The time commitment for the volunteer position is 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and one weekday afternoon or evening per week.

THE THORNTON ACADEMY Alumni Board has honored teachers Teri Hogan Arenstam ’77 and Mary Wiggin with Volunteer of the Year awards for their service to the school and community in annually organizing multiple volunteer intensives to coordinate the Mary’s Walk cancer research fundraiser, man the school’s annual blood drive and Children’s Winter Carnival, work at a soup kitchen, visit and provide yard work for the elderly, participate in beach and park cleanups and organize gift boxes for Operation Christmas Child.
