
WELLS ― Two Wells Junior High School students were recognized by the Wells-Ogunquit CSD School Committee for their success in the 2019 WJHS Spelling Bee.
Wells Junior High eighth-grade student Madison Smith won the contest by correctly spelling the word “ricotta” and seventh-grader Sam Coleman became the runner up for the 2019 contest.
A total of 12 WJHS students participated in this annual event which was held in February in Ward Gymnasium.
Presenting a certificate of recognition for exemplary achievement to Smith and Coleman at the Wells-Ogunquit Central Schools Committee meeting was Superintendent Jim Daly and Committee Chair Helena Ackerson.
At the York County Spelling Bee on Feb. 15 at Sanford Christian Academy, Coleman placed third overall in the county and Smith earned sixth place in the competition.
