SANFORD — Students work hard to improve their literacy skills, and their work — and that of their tutors at Literacy Volunteers of Greater Sanford — will be featured at the organization’s Twentieth Annual Student Recognition Dinner on Thursday, May 16, at the Town Club in Sanford.
Registration begins at 5 and the program begins at 5:30. p.m.
“The event includes recognition of students and tutors, a delicious dinner and the chance to be inspired by the achievements of adult literacy students,” said director Ingrid Baily. “We are pleased to announce that David Jagger will be our guest speaker.”

LVGS supports the literacy needs of adults with free, confidential one-on-one tutoring by trained adult volunteers. Founded in 1986, LVGS helps adults improve their literacy levels and change their lives. Baily said the agency is grateful to have strong community support and to be a United Way of York County partner.
Tickets to the dinner are $15 per person.
For reservations, call the office at 324-2486 by Wednesday, May 8.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
