FALMOUTH
THE MAKE-A-WISH Foundation of Maine raised more than $120,000 and granted a wish at its annual auction fundraiser last month at the Woodlands Club in Falmouth. Jacob, a 16-year-old from Kennebec County who has been fighting cancer, was granted his wish for an ATV. More than 200 people attended the event, including employees of NewPage Mill in Rumford, who raised $12,000, which helped pay for Jacob’s wish and another wish.
PORTLAND
FRIENDS OF EVERGREEN CEMETERY are looking for volunteers for its new docent program. There will be a meeting for people interested in becoming docents from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Wilde Memorial Chapel in Evergreen Cemetery, 672 Stevens Ave. The meeting will include a slide show and walking tour of Evergreen Cemetery, led by Janet Morelli. KENNEBUNK
THE BRICK STORE MUSEUM is accepting submissions for its Digital Photography Contest through Sept. 2, with winners to be selected from one of three categories including “Kennebunk,” “Travel,” and “Nature.” Each participant may submit up to five entries in age divisions of 16 and younger or 17 and older. Every image entered will appear on the Brick Store Museum’s website from July 15 to Sept. 2 for viewing. Winning photographs, including “Visitor’s Choice,” will be displayed this fall. WELLS
THE INTRAMURAL SEWING CLUB at Wells Junior High School recently completed a service learning project to stitch an assortment of baby bags for the Kids Free to Grow Child Abuse Prevention Council of York County. The bags will be distributed by Goodall Hospital, York Hospital, Southern Maine Medical Center and from various midwives to parents of newborns.
ROCKPORT
RICH MAZUREK has been named the Rockland Rotary’s Community Person of the Year for his efforts to help build the new George C. Hall softball field. Mazurek has been overseeing the $100,000 project for the past 10 years, while serving as both a coach and president of Rockland Little League. The award annually goes to a person who is not a Rotarian but represents the organization’s ideals of service above self.

FREE PASSES to the Maine State Museum in Augusta are available for Norway Memorial Library cardholders. Library patrons may reserve the passes at the circulation desk during regular hours. One pass provides one day’s admission for up to four people. Due to popular demand requests for specific dates must be made in advance and a choice of alternate days is recommended.
