ATTLEBORO, Mass. (AP) — A 17-year-old teen has drowned in an indoor pool.
Ibrahim Iqbal, of Brooklyn, had been swimming laps in the Olympic-sized pool at the Crystal Village Apartments on Wednesday afternoon when he was found unresponsive at the bottom of the deep end, according to Gregg Miliote, a spokesman for the Bristol County District Attorney’s office.
Miliote said it appears the drowning was accidental, but it’s not clear if Iqbal was suffering from any medical conditions. The medical examiner will conduct an autopsy and the police are still investigating.
Iqbal had been staying with relatives at the apartment complex.
He had been in the pool with at least one other relative.
Emergency responders rushed Iqbal to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, where he was pronounced dead at around 4 p.m.
