PORTLAND (AP) — A high-speed ferry in Maine known as the Cat is temporarily suspended after two of its four engines blew out in separate incidents.
The Canadian company Bay Ferries Limited cancelled the ferry’s next two scheduled trips after the Cat arrived in Portland Monday from Nova Scotia. It arrived with only two of its four engines in operation.
The company canceled return service to Nova Scotia and the return trip Tuesday.
Last month, an engine problem caused it to scale back to three engines, but on Tuesday the crew detected an “abnormality” that took another engine out of operation.
The ferry had to be assisted by tugboats once it reached port in Portland.
