Edward Farley was crossing from the sidewalk on Main Street toward City Hall when he was struck by a car turning right onto Main Street from Roberts Street.
“The vehicle collided with the pedestrian and continued south on Main Street without stopping at the scene,” said Deputy Police Chief Tim Strout in an email. He said witnesses described the vehicle and it was located and stopped near 1247 Main St. The driver was a 16-year-old boy.
Strout said the crosswalk in the area is currently not marked due to construction on Roberts Street.
Farley was taken to to Maine Medical Center in Portland. On Tuesday, a hospital spokeswoman said he was in satisfactory condition — which, according to Maine Medical Center, means his vital signs are stable and within normal limits and he is conscious and comfortable.
No charges have been filed as of midday Tuesday. Strout said the accident is under investigation.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
