SANFORD – Sanford Elks will host the 10th Annual “Arnie’s Ride” to benefit the Maine Children’s Cancer Program on Saturday, June 1st.

This is a  motorcycle, automobile and truck ride and social event named in memory of Arnold “Arnie” Pierce, and benefits the Maine Children’s Cancer Program.

Arnie Pierce, a member of the elks and a motorcycle enthusiast, died in 2009.

The ride is led by his son, Joe Pierce, organizers say.

The ride begins and ends at the Sanford Elks Lodge, followed by a barbecue, with several stops along the route.

Registration commemorative t-shirt incl. is $25 per person and is available now until the day of the ride. Registration forms are available at the Sanford Elks Lodge, Lafayette Club, and American Legion,  Wolves Club and Springvale Social Club. Registrations are also accepted the morning of the ride 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.. Ride starts at 10:15 a.m.; rain date Sunday June 2.

Pierce was a very active member of the Sanford Elks Maine Children’s Cancer Program Committee.

The ride began as a type of poker run benefiting MCCP in in the mid 2000s, but  when Pierce passed away, organizers say Wayne Young took over the fundraiser and renamed it Arnie’s Ride to honor his longtime friend.
