SANFORD — The Sanford Mainers will open the New England Collegiate Baseball League playoffs tonight when they host North Adams at Goodall Park.
The Mainers earned the No. 2 seed in the Northern Division after finishing the regular season with a 23-18 record.
Following tonight’s game, which starts at 6:30 p.m., the Mainers will visit North Adams on Tuesday and will host the SteepleCats on Wednesday ”“ if the game is necessary.
The winner of the Sanford-North Adams series will play the winner of the other Northern Division series between No. 1 Vermont and No. 4 Laconia.
In other Mainers’ news, Sanford’s Dalton Thomas captured the 2015 NECBL batting title with a .380 average.
Mainers pitcher Ben Wessel, who is from Scarborough, finished the season with an ERA of 1.74, which was good enough for third in the NECBL.
