LIMINGTON – Two suspects have been arrested and charged with operating a mobile methamphetamine lab after a Maine State Police Trooper and a York County Sheriff’s Office deputy came across the pair in a vehicle parked outside a business on Route 25 on Tuesday afternoon.

After a brief investigation, officers said they located crystal methamphetamine in the vehicle as well as several items used to manufacture the drug.

The Maine Drug Enforcement Clandestine Lab Response Team was asked to respond to the scene to safely secure the vehicle and process the evidence.

Amanda Merrifield, 33, of Limington and Jason Adams, 34, of Charlotte, North Carolina, were arrested and charged with operating a methamphetamine lab in a motor vehicle, a Class B felony. Adams was also charged with violating conditions of release.

Both were taken to York County Jail in Alfred. Merrifield’s bail was set at $1,000 while Adams was held without bail because of his alleged violation from a previous arrest.

Both were scheduled to make a first court appearance Wednesday afternoon by video link from the jail to Springvale District Court.

Maine State Police in a social media posting said Merrifield is the same person who was a passenger in a motor vehicle that was involved in a pursuit with Maine State Police in Hollis on May 21.

The driver of that vehicle, Kyle Needham, 32, was shot and killed by a Gorham police officer 10 days later.

A spokesman for the Maine Attorney General’s Office said the shooting took place when it appeared Needham was about to run over an officer in the parking lot of a shopping plaza, according to a June 2 story by Portland Press Herald staff writer Matt Byrne.
