HOMOSASSA, Fla. — Maxine Varney peacefully passed away at the age of 92 in her sleep at home in Homosassa, Florida on Sept. 8, 2017.
She leaves behind three children Darlene, John, and Mark; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, which she held dearly.
Maxine was a member of The Grand Chapter of Maine Order of the Eastern Star. She held many offices during her years in Star and traveled through out Maine and the states, meeting many new friends, which she enjoyed.
She was kind caring and always there for family and friends when they needed help. She could always make you smile with her quick wit and sense of humor. She will greatly be missed by all.
Maxine will be buried next to her husband Wesley Varney in Scarborough, Maine.
There will be a celebration of her life Nov. 4, 2017, which would have been her 93rd birthday, at the South Gorham Baptist Church in Gorham Maine from 2 to 4 p.m. for family and friends.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
