Editor,
On Nov, 7 voters in Saco have the opportunity to exercise one of their most important responsibilities — voting.
However, the point of this letter isn’t to let you know how important voting is (you already knew that), it is instead to ask for your support on the three local bond questions unanimously approved by the city council.
Why do the council and I support the bond questions?
Retiring debt will allow us to incorporate the bond cost into the yearly budget with little to no tax increase.
Interest rates are near or at historical lows reducing overall cost.
Replacing the public works garage means avoiding the increasing cost of maintaining a building that is long past its prime.
Finalizing the Route 1 sewer expansion will create economic opportunities for growing our commercial and industrial base.
Bonding the cost of necessary items such as the police station roof and road improvements helps avoid spikes in property taxes.
So please, join me on Nov. 7 and vote Yes on all three local bond questions.
Finally, thank you for letting me serve as your mayor for these past two years. It has been my honor to represent this great community.
Mayor Ron Michaud
Saco

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
