SANFORD — The Sanford Parks and Recreation Department is offering pickleball, volleyball, a Boston Fun Trip, 5K and 10K road race, a “Dog Jog,” basketball, line dancing, Dance with the Stars, snow skiing and snow boarding, along with week long day camps.
• Folks 50 and older play pickleball with Roger Huppe and Ernie Cote. Both have been playing the game for years and are instrumental in teaching new players. Play Mon-Sat at the Nasson Commmunity Center Gym this fall and winter. $3 per day -No registration needed – just show up/pay and play.
• Adults and Students interested in playing recreation volleyball may attend Monday evening “volleyball open gym” at the Sanford Junior High School Gym from 7 to 9 p.m. this fall and winter. $1 for Students and $2 for Adults.
• Boston Shopping Trip – Saturday Dec. 2 from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. meeting at the Junior High School Pprking lot. Cost is $25/person.
• 5K and 10K Turkey Trot Road Race and 1 Mile Dog Jog Saturday Nov.18. Meet at the Junior r High Gym for check in at 8 a.m. – race begins at 9 a.m. Multiple age categories $20 in advance and $25 day of race. $50 Visa Gift Cards for the first place winners for 5K and $25 1st place winners for 10K and running gloves for everyone.
• Youth Basketball for 7 tthough 12 graders happens Tuesday nights at the Sanford Junior r High Gym this fall and winter, 7 to 9 p.m. Cost is $1/night. If there is no school that day there is no gym that evening.
• Adult Basketball Open Gym is on Wednesday evenings this fall and winter. Meet at the Junior.High Gym for play 7 to 9 p.m. Cost is $2/evening. If there is no school that day, there is no open gym that night.
• Free Senior Citizen Line Dancing will take place at Village View Apartments on Pleasant St reetin Springvale on Wednesday’s from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Meet in the parking lot at 10:20 and walk in together. Instructed by Lori Hegarty. Dancers will attempt the Waltz, Cha Cha, Electric Slide, Disco and an Irish Step Dance. Classes are free to all senior citizens
•Week-Long Day Camps will be offered in December, February and April during school vacation weeks. Registration for these camps begins two weeks prior to the vacation week.
• Skiing and Snow Boarding will be offered on Sundays at Shawnee Peak starting in January – families can drive and meet us there. More details regarding this program are coming in November.
