Harold George Estabrook
BRUNSWICK – Harold George Estabrook, formerly of Freeport, went to the Lord on Sept. 24, 2019. He was born on July 16, 1931, the son of Alvin T. and Lenora Quinn Estabrook of Porters Landing.
Harold was a graduate of Freeport High School, class of 1949, and thereafter served in the army during the Korean Conflict. After returning from the service he became employed at L.L. Bean where he met and married his wonderful wife of 62 years, Irene “Sylvia” Fournier. They traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada with nieces, nephews, family and friends. Once, they went to Alaska and purchased a camper for the dog to sleep in and then only used it twice during the whole trip. They also went to Ireland in their later years.
He also worked at Milliken Tomlinson Co., Wetterau Inc. and Associated Grocers (AG) as a produce manager in Maine and New Hampshire. To this day, his strong personality is remembered throughout the region. He was an excellent storyteller, who held his own with anyone; and a major pot stirrer – and we’re not talking about in the kitchen. Harold greatly enjoyed the outdoors. It was not uncommon to find him messing about on his tractor, riding dirt bikes, four-wheelers, and snowmobiles at and around the camp he built using “family labor” at Lake Moxie. The camp continues to be enjoyed by many generations. When teaching others he had the patience of a saint and should have been a history teacher because he brought history to life. He taught Sunday school at the First Baptist Church for many years to Freeport youth. He loved trains and farm equipment.
He was a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge of Freeport, The Forks ATV Club, Lake Moxie Association, and First Baptist Church of Brunswick.
Although he and his wife never had children of their own he touched the lives of everyone who met him.
We are “super deluxe” delighted to have known him, and although we will miss him greatly, we will continue to think on the good things.
Both his parents and all his siblings predeceased him: Kathleen Parker, Raymond Estabrook, Thelma Summers, Francis Stilkey, Barbara Wilson, and Roger Estabrook.
His wife, Sylvia; three sisters-in-law; and many loving nieces and nephews, survive Harold. They will sorely miss his morning rivalry, his contagious laugh, his positive outlook on life and his wonderful sense of humor.
One of Harold’s favorite daily sayings was “just another day in paradise.” May he rest in peace knowing he has arrived.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 1, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 284 Church Rd., Brunswick.
A special thank you to the friends and staff of Coastal Landing and the Brunswick Baptist Church family for their excellent loving support
