BANGOR – Christian McCue of Hampden Academy and Alexa Coulombe of McAuley were named Mr. and Miss Maine Basketball at the McDonald’s Senior All-Star banquet Friday night at Husson University.

Coulombe, a 6-foot-2 forward, led the Lions to an unbeaten season and their second straight Class A state championship. She averaged 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four blocked shots, and was named most valuable player of the Western Class A tournament.

She accepted a basketball scholarship last year to attend Boston College.

“It is such an honor. I was mentioned with two of the best players in the state, Meghan (Gribbin) and Mia (Diplock),” Coulombe said. “I’m thankful for this opportunity. It is the best way to end my four years in high school.”

The other two finalists for Miss Basketball were Cony’s Mia Diplock and Windham’s Meghan Gribbin. Diplock averaged 16.2 points and 4.8 assists in leading the Rams to the Class A state championship game. Named the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A South player of the year, Diplock will attend Colby in the fall.

Gribbin led the Southern Maine Activities Association in scoring at 20.2 points per game for a team that lost to McAuley in the regional semifinals. The 5-5 guard was named Maine’s Gatorade Player of the Year.

McCue, a 6-foot-2 guard, led the Bronocs to the Class A state championship game, where he scored 28 points in a 59-50 loss to Deering. He averaged 17.2 points during the regular season and was named KVAC A North co-player of the year.

“It pretty much means everything to me,” McCue said. “I’ve always sort of dreamed of this award. I didn’t think it was possible until this year.”

The other two finalists were Mt. Blue’s Cam Sennick and Bonny Eagle’s Cole Libby. Sennick averaged 16.1 points and 9.6 rebounds while leading the Cougars to a 14-4 record a berth in the Eastern Class A championship game. The 6-6 Sennick shared KVAC North player of the year honors with McCue. He’s considering several colleges, including Coast Guard, Norwich, Wentworth Institute of Technology, and Maine.

Libby, a 6-2 guard/forward, averaged 15.9 points and 9.7 rebounds, helping the Scots reach the Western Class A championship game for the second straight season.
