OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators moved quickly to add insurance with their top goaltender out of the lineup.
They acquired 6-foot-7 Ben Bishop, a former UMaine goalie, from the St. Louis Blues on Sunday for a second-round draft pick in 2013. Bishop has been among the best goalies in the AHL this season.
He joins the Senators less than a week after Craig Anderson had surgery for a severed tendon in his right hand. He cut his small finger while preparing food.
Bishop, now the tallest goalie in the NHL, was to have become a free agent this summer but agreed to a one-year extension as part of Sunday’s trade.

The Sharks played more than half of the night without Coach Todd McLellan, who was inadvertently hit in the head with a stick during a play in front of the bench early in the second period. After staying down for a bit, McLellan walked gingerly to the locker room.
McLellan was alert and responsive and able to offer opinions to the staff during the second intermission and after the game.
